NYBG’s 20th annual orchid show is inspired by ancient Chinese garden design

The New York Botanical Garden’s treasured orchid show returns this month for its 20th calendar year. Designed by guest artist Lily Kwong, The Orchid Present: Purely natural Heritage transforms the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory with hundreds of orchids and a fantastical landscape motivated by historic Chinese back garden style and creative ideas. Tickets are on sale now for the show, which opens Saturday, February 18, and operates through April 23.
The intricate designs discovered in the exhibition are impressed by basic paintings of Chinese mountainscapes passed down through Kwong’s relatives from Shanghai.
